What are Mala Beads
In Buddhism and Hinduism, Mala (the Sanskrit word for garland) beads are traditionally used as a tool for meditation. There are 108 beads, with one ‘guru’ bead. Not into meditation? No problem! Don’t let that intimidate you. Our mala beads are for everyone, from yogis to the trend- setters, from children to grandparents and the like. There’s no separation here. They can be simply worn as a beautiful, unique piece of jewellery. But be prepared for some lovely side effects from your mala necklace: from the compliments you will receive from others as your gorgeous mala matches the radiance that shines from you, to that lovely feeling of centeredness and joy as your days start to manifest those intentions you sent out into the Universe!
How to Choose your Mala
There is no wrong way to choose your Mala – the Mala will choose you. You are attracted to your chosen Mala for a reason: it might be a healing aspect, a purpose, the colour of the crystals might sing to you, or the intention behind the design of the mala (See ABOUT Satya Malas) might be exactly what you are looking for to create an energetic shift in your life. Whatever it may be, you will always make the right decision and choose a Satya Mala that is perfect for you.
PLEASE NOTE: These exquisite Malas are not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any disease. You are working with energy and intention here, and the results are the responsibility of the Mala wearer.
How to do Japa Meditation
Sit somewhere comfortable and upright so your spine is straight, close your eyes and breathe freely and deeply, preferably from the diaphragm through the nose.
Set a personal, positive, specific intention in your mind. For example “I love and approve of myself”, “I am healthy and free of pain”, “I am in control, all is safe in my world right now”, “I attract abundance into my life”. Or you can use one of the Sanskrit mantras that were carefully matched to your mala.
Take the mala beads in your right hand. As you run your mala beads through your fingers repeat your intention/mantra a single time for each bead. Keep going until you return to the guru bead, 108 chants. You should feel at peace and be confident that you have infused your energetic self with your wonderful healing intention and sent this intention out into the Universe, to work its magic!
And remember, meditation takes practice and is a gentle process. Be kind to yourself. There will be days where the meditation feels so right and so powerful, and other days where you feel scattered and just going through the motions. Hang in there! Allow the mala beads to support you in your meditative practice and if you can’t practice or run out of time simply wear the mala and the powerful intention held by the crystals will remain close to your body and your energetic field.
